Project with Purpose snags the opportunity to raise awareness for mental health

At Asuria Training, our Project with Purpose Team works to design and organise their own activities that support, engage and overall, give back to the community.

Project with Purpose is an initiative that’s part of our Employability Skills Training for Youth Job PaTH. The program aims to teach participants the skills needed to find employment whilst having a significant focus on community.

Last month was Mental Health Awareness Month. To get the community involved and to raise awareness, our amazing Project with Purpose participants created a fundraiser to support homeless people dealing with mental illness.

Our participants put together a BBQ, giving the community the option to donate, as well as a pay as you feel system.

Everyone worked extremely hard on the day, and the days leading up to the event. Some of the prep work our participants took part in included designing and distributing posters, as well as marketing the event on social media.

In total, our Project with Purpose team raised over $400 for the Wesley Community Centre, who are working to support the mental health of the homeless in their community.

Our team also donated leftover stock to the local community kitchen, so that nothing went to waste.

As well as considering the financial status of the community, our participants also considered their dietary requirements, as there was a separate BBQ serving vegan options.

There was also an activity table set up that was covered in colouring-in activities.

We were lucky enough to have received support from the Black Dog Institute and Headspace for the BBQ, and all the bread was donated from Figtree Bakers Delight and Figtree Woolworths, which was much appreciated.

At Asuria Training, we care deeply about breaking the stigma associated with mental illness, and our participants are equally as passionate and eager to provide support for those suffering in the community.

The event was a huge success, so well done to our wonderful Project with Purpose participants for putting together such a fantastic community activity.
