Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to be effective in an aged care worker role in a residential setting.
You will learn to use a person-centred approach to assist with personal care by following individualised plans to look after the elderly.
By promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting their emotional wellbeing, you will discover how to empower and facilitate the independence of older people.
Course Duration and Delivery
The 12 month program is delivered in shorter, more manageable terms of learning.
This allows you to focus on specific sections of the program at one time. These terms also provide the perfect ‘check point’ over the duration of the program to monitor and support your progress.
Each term, you will enjoy an innovative 360 degree learning experience.
After a program orientation session, you will engage in online group workshops and tutorials, online activities, and have access to on-demand support as required.
You will also gain hands-on experience from your industry work placement (120 hours) which includes a check-in visit from your trainer.

Program Details
This is an entry-level course, and no previous skills or experience are necessary.
While there are no specific entry requirements, participants are required to take the language, literacy, and numeracy skills (LLN) assessment. It will help us understand how we can assist you in any areas where you may need help while studying with us.
There is the expectation that students will attend scheduled online face-to-face tutorials and webinars.
Computer with access to the Internet and with the ability to conduct video interviews. Minimum specifications for your computer are:
- Microsoft Windows 7 or later or Mac OS X or above
- Microsoft Office
- Up-to-date internet browser
- You may also need access to a printer and the following applications
- Adobe Acrobat reader (free download)
- Adobe Flash player (free download)
Mobile video recording device i.e., a mobile phone that can record short video at a workplace with a supervisor
The learners’ physical attributes may influence their ability to complete the training and assessment. Assessment and training require participants to be physically capable of performing personal care for adults, lifting, and cleaning.
You MUST provide the below before commencement of work placement:
- Police check
- Working with Vulnerable Persons (WWVP)
*Evidence of vaccination can easily be provided by a downloadable certificate from the “MyHealth” record
Vaccination Requirements
NSW | For NSW, the requirement for care workers to have at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine continues to apply beyond 19 June 2022. A person who provides a disability service is required to have 3 doses of a COVID-19 vaccination. Evidence of vaccination includes your: – Online immunisation history statement launch – COVID-19 digital certificate via the Service NSW app – COVID-19 digital certificate via the Australian Immunisation Register launch – Medical contraindication certificate – Medical clearance form. – Evidence of your medical exemption must be from a medical practitioner in the form approved by the NSW Chief Health Officer (if applicable) |
Tasmania | Now effective from 23 April 2022, workers in residential, in-home and community aged care and disability support workers are required to have a booster dose within 4 weeks of becoming eligible. This is required under a new Public Health Direction. |
SA | A person must not engage in work or perform duties of an in-home and community aged care worker or a disability support worker unless – (a) The person has received at least one dose of a TGA approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine; and (b) The person has received, or has evidence of a booking to receive, a second dose of a TGA approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine within the interval after the first dose recommended by the ATAGI for that COVID-19 vaccine; and (c) Within the prescribed time, the person receives, or has evidence of a booking to receive, a third dose (booster) of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine. AND Flu Vaccination Exemption- Medical exemptions will only be accepted and endorsed by the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) if they are in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) published guidelines www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/atagi-expanded-guidance-on-temporary-medical-exemptions-for-covid-19-vaccines. |
